Color theory has a long history. In 1802 Alexander von Humbolt took a cyanometer, a device with swatches of blue used to measure the blueness of the sky, on his travels across the Atlantic. He recorded a measurement of f 23.5 degrees over the Atlantic and 46 degrees on Mount Chimborazo while summiting in Ecuador.
